South Bend-based Sarae Boutique would’ve opened its doors on October 23rd: if it had doors to open. Instead, Sara Musleh and Avonni Ward flipped the switch on their website, transforming a “Coming Soon” page into their fully functional online store.
While most boutiques get their start by selling in-person first and gradually transition online, Sara and Avonni decided to do things differently. It’s not the first time the dynamic duo has taken an alternate route, as both find themselves venturing into fashion e-commerce after studying pre-med together at Holy Cross College. Although both have strong science backgrounds, neither are strangers to the business realm. Sara has been helping run her family’s stores for the past seven years, and Avonni just completed her Master’s degree in management at Notre Dame.
What started as a love of fashion and passion for inclusivity, blossomed into the idea of Sarae, which has been 1.5 years in the making. Sara and Avonni’s vision was to create a space where women could find upscale fashionable pieces that work for all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. They will be integrating plus-size clothing into their boutique by December of this year. Sarae Boutique will also be launching their scarf line in 2021. Overall, their biggest goal is women empowering other women.
After speaking with Sara and Avonni, we’re excited to watch their business grow! While their shipping is countrywide, they maintain a local mindset of wanting to make a direct impact in the South Bend community through Sarae Boutique’s mission to foster inclusivity and empowerment through fashion.
